Fingerspelling (Volume 1)
Basic Vocabulary and Fingerspelling (Volume 1):This
one-of-a-kind CD shows you dynamic, real-life demonstrations of 450
signs. Seeing actual ASL movement improves your vocabulary by making
the language come alive. (No book can do that!) Includes built in
quizzes to see how many signs you’ve learned. Explore 21 useful
vocabulary categories including Animals, Numbers, Sports, and many
more - all demonstrated by real Deaf people who are native ASL
signers.
Where is the text? To encourage you to visualize
ASL, this compilation of vocabulary appears alongside practical
illustrations instead of English words. The only exception is the
word "Deaf" which we recognize as the preferred term among members
of the community whose primary mode of communication is American
Sign Language. Because ASL is a visual language, this dynamic CD
helps build your vocabulary by showing you the actual movement for
450 signs. There are 21 categories including Animals, Numbers,
Sports, and many more. You can practice as much as you want, then
take a quiz and print your scores.
Sign variation. There are many vocabulary items
that have more than one sign just as English has different words for
the same concept (for example: couch, sofa, davenport). ASL is a
living language with regional variations. In this volume of basic
vocabulary, we show only one sign to avoid confusing beginners.
*Learning to rely on your eyes and not your ears is challenging for
new signers. Visualize ASL materials reinforce visual learning by
having educational software that is purely visual; there is no audio
on this CD.
