The Egyptian Hieroglyphic Signs

Introduction      Signs     Lessons     Writing     Print: Help Menu     Buy Now

Begin with the 25 Monoliteral signs.  Watch our introductory movie demonstrating the transliteration system used in Egyptian Hieroglyphs Made Easy.  This is the sound written with the English alphabet.  This sound is read along with a sample of its usage in an English word.  Where there is no English equivalent, a particular symbol and a short explanation is provided.

The Monoliteral signs represent a single consonant like "b" or "p."  Biliteral signs represent two of these consonants put together like "k" and "m"  to make "km."  Likewise, Triliteral represent three consonants like "w" "s" and "r" together as one "wsr."  With the Interactive Alphabet Tutor, you will learn the Monoliteral, Biliteral and Triliteral signs and begin to visually recognize and associate sounds to each hieroglyphic sign.  Next, test your ability to produce the sound of a sign without any help.  Learn vocabulary based on signs just learned and finally, spell the word with our fun spelling game.

Interactive Alphabet Tutor:  click on the small icon below of the 25 monoliteral signs to hear how each letter is pronounced.  In the program, these signs will be broken down into four groups -  you repeat after the tutor.  Choose an exercise as many times as necessary to learn a particular sign or signs.

Vocabulary:  Click on the signs (in the program) and the meaning and transliteration (pronunciation in English) will show - at the same time, hear  how the ancient Egyptians pronounced the word!

The spelling game gives you three tries for each letter.  The word is spelled out on top as you select the correct sign.  The "Submit Answer" button shows the completed sign.  And, finally, the "Read" button will play the sound of the Egyptian word.
