You may abbreviate a hieroglyphic sign in order to write it, but you must make sure that the sign's essential features are represented. The animations in Egyptian Hieroglyphs Made Easy represent Professor Scott Noegel's own hieroglyphic handwriting of the twenty-five monoliteral signs presented. These animations provide a basic idea of how you might write some of the hieroglyphic signs. Note that Egyptian Hieroglyphs Made Easy presents the signs as written from left to right, that is, with the glyphs facing to the left. Keep in mind, however, that it is important to be able to read and write in both directions, since both directions (and also vertical writing) appear in the original texts.
Click on each picture below to see an animation of that sign being written. Please note that these animations may take some time to load on computers with slower connections. Therefore, you may not want to click on these at this time. Also, these animations are smaller and of lesser quality than those on the actual CD itself. |
