Introduction
LocalSphere delivers the following key benefits to the application developer targeting multi-language environments:

LocalSphere is a tool, which enables a package to be translated from one (human) language to another.
No changes to the source code are required and consequently there’s no need to maintain multiple copies of the application source.

Functionality
In previous utilities, the translation work had been performed by the programmer. This was difficult because application programmers are not usually familiar with the (human) language required and the application domain. LocalSphere separates the programming work from the translation work by providing separate utilities for the programmer and the translator. The translation of a package is performed in three stages:

The application developer will present an application package to LocalSphere, which will collect all the language-dependent phrases and place them in a translation dictionary. There is a configurable, rule-based specification to aid accuracy in this process.

The translator will translate the dictionary using the GUI editor supplied. Alternatively, the dictionary can be exported to an external database or text-processing package, edited there and then re-imported to LocalSphere.

The translated dictionary will then be applied to the selected packages. These stages can be repeated for any number of languages. The dictionary can be re-used for other packages. Further, when re-translating a package (eg after it’s been enhanced or bugs have been fixed) the dictionary is re-used and so only new phrases need translation.

Operating environment
LocalSphere is written entirely in Java and can be run on any hardware or operating system with a suitable (JDK 1.3.x or higher) Java Virtual machine.

Support is provided for installation, training, maintenance, and Consultancy.

Deliverables
A comprehensive User Guide is delivered with each installation. Training can be provided on customer's premises if required.
